Medieval castles were first made
out of mud and wood, but wood burned so then they made them by stone. Thick
walls made people feel protected. Peasants lived outside the castle but when in
trouble they ran in and closed the gates for protection. Castles were built on
the highest point of land so they could see trouble coming.
Some castles were surrounded by a moat with a drawbridge. Each country in Europe has their own style, but copied each other after a while. There were three ways to attack a castle-starvation, mining and treachery. The castles were built so well the many survive today. Windsor castle is an example. The castles style depended on the landscape.
